Angel vs Demon
Angel vs Demon was a cinematic project that was worked on by a team of twelve people. The goal was to create an animation that showcased an epic battle between the angel Gabriel and the demon Asmodeus.
During the production phase, we faced an issue where there was too much open space in the background. We were looking into a way to help with framing the characters and filling the space. We decided to go for destroyed buildings as the it would flow with the theme of an epic battle.
Abandoned Buildings
I approached this by creating a modular kit that would allow us to make various buildings using similar pieces, but would also provide us with unique elements of destruction that would give variation, and personality to them. This turned out to be a successful approach as it helped us achieve our goals of framing and filling blank space, but it created a performance issues due to the models having too dense topology.
Angel Vs Demon was a cinematic that proved challenging in the way that it was difficult to see everything come together. The team was working off concept alone, and it was difficult to see how everything came together until the very end. I realised how important it is to start working with proxy meshes that help piece the vision together so that if something needs to be iterated on, it can be done earlier.
